Rio Reiser musical
| visual narratives for a play at Schiller TheatreThe musical director Frank-Leo Schröder inquired about video sequences for Mein Name ist Mensch, which was to be performed via Komödie am Ku'Damm at the interim site in Schiller Theater in 2019 and 2021.
The task was to produce short and concise visual stories for the intermediate parts to give deeper insights about Rio Reiser`s life. Magmastudio developed storyboards for the texts, did location scouting and realized the shootings with the performing artists of the play. The production included drone flights, underwater shots and gimbal rides. Twelve videos were produced and integrated into the stage design of the play. The musical was shown daily during the 2 months of 2019. Then after a “Corona-break” there was another month of playtime.
The performance was a great success, especially among Rio Reiser fans, who saw their idol come back to life with the well-known songs of Ton, Steine Scherben performed by the amazing artists live on stage.
Magma Studio is a collective formed by filmmakers, photographers, art directors and graphic designers. The studio works with cultural institutions, festivals and event producers, galleries and individual artists. With the combination of film, pictures and design Magma develops tailor-made communication strategies for social media communities and beyond.
